UNP -JVP vow to fight against illegal Parliament Sec. General appointment!

(April 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The much vexatious issue of the appointment of the New Secretary General of Parliament took a disastrous turn when the President went ahead and illegally appointed Dhammika Kitulgoda, the new acting Secretary General, yesterday (31 Mar), despite overwhelming Opposition from all law abiding persons and quarters in the country!

UNP Gen. Secretary Tissa Attanayake said that the President must fully shoulder all the chaos and crises this action is going to bring in its train. The President who has become proverbial for continued violation of the constitution and fomenting lawlessness in the country cannot escape the repercussions of this illegal action within and without Parliament. When the House meets on 8th April the main Opposition Party UNP and JVP are to agitate and protest strongly against this appointment, he added.

JVP M.P. Bimal Ratnayake asserted that the Constitutional Council which was established in 2002 clearly sets out the procedure for the Secretary General appointment which should have been followed by the President .As the President has violated the constitution by making this appointment brazenly and wrongfully , this appointment and President’s actions shall be objected to and opposed , he exhorted.
