Indian arms used to kill Lankan Tamils: Jayalalitha

(October 04, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Accusing the Central government of supplying arms to the Sri Lankan forces, AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa today said a substantial number of the Tamil population in the island nation was being killed using Indian ammunition.

In a statement here, she said a secret training course was provided to over 100 Lankan military personnel in Haryana with the full knowledge and approval of the Indian government.

‘A government that has as many as 10 persons from Tamilnadu holding powerful Ministerial positions, a government that has the DMK as a very important constituent is doing this. If the DMK withdraws support, the government will fall.

The threat of withdrawal has been successfully used by that self- proclaimed saviour of the Tamil people M Karunanidhi to secure plum Ministerial postings for his family members and confidants in the party. But when it comes to the safety, security and well-being of the Tamil people, Karunanidhi becomes speechless,’ she said.

Stating that Indian arms and ammunition were being used against the innocent Tamils in Lanka, Jayalalithaa said the Lankan armed forces had also killed Indian fishermen. ‘The Indian government has been saying that this matter has been taken up with the Sri Lankan government. But no tangible action has been taken so far. What an irony!’ she said.

The former Chief Minister added: ‘One terrorist strike against the World Trade Centre twin towers in New York resulted in the whole of Afghanistan being razed to the earth by American forces.

We are not asking for an armed invasion of Sri Lanka. What we look for is that the Indian Prime Minister should call up his Sri Lankan counterpart and make his displeasure known in clear terms.’

Stating that it was time for the people to recall these persons whom they have installed in power, Jayalalithaa said the AIADMK would play a lead role in harnessing people’s power to bring down the ‘evil regimes’ that hold office both at the Centre and in Tamilnadu.
