Is this a Govt. or a ghoul? -SB

(October 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) S.B. Dissanayake, UNP National Organiser addressing the media today (9 Oct), only a Govt. which has ghoulish characteristics would commit sacrilege as did this Govt. by most disrespectfully refusing to airlift the corteges of celebrated war hero Janaka Perera and his wife after a solemn promise was given by it. The Govt. which promised to provide helicopter facility to transport the corteges to Anuradhapura yesterday morning at 9.00 a.m. , denied the facility at the last minute most insolently to the dismay and disappointment of all those who trusted the Govt.’s word.

The corteges which were taken to the Ratmalana airport for the airlifting from the airport were kept most unceremoniously and degradingly on the wayside for five hours , only to receive a negative answer. This Govt. did not give Major General Janaka Perera the honor, recognition and security he deserved while living and virtually led him to the death trap. Even in death the Govt. has no sympathy towards him and his family, Dissanayake lamented.

If this Govt. treats in this degrading manner such a war hero who wrested the initiative from the LTTE and turned many a Govt.’s losing battle into victory, it is a matter for the present war heroes to ponder what treatment will be meted out to them after they have done their might for the country.

Recalling the circumstances surrounding the death of Janaka Perera , Dr. John Pulle , their spouses and many others as well as those injured in the tragedy , he said, the UNP is not trying to exculpate the LTTE as eagerly as the Govt. is trying to pin the blame on them even before the investigation has begun. But, the UNP has ample evidence to suspect that there has been another source behind this :

The Govt.’ s anxiety to fasten the blame to the LTTE from the moment of the blast which presumably is to obscure investigation in any other direction which could reveal the true culprit.
The police still drawing a blank in its investigations. Unable to apprehend anyone so far on an assassination of a national hero.

The suspect who is deformed and a freak was unable to walk normally. If that is so , who carried him to the scene of the blast ?

There are also allegations that people at the meeting had seen the infamous white Van dropping the assassin just before the blast.

Those who saw the assassin vouch that he was a Sinhalese and not a Tamil.

There was an extensive search operation in the Anuradhapura District two days prior to the blast. Couldn’t they arrest the suspect, if any there was?

This blast seen vis a vis the other incidents of violence against those who speak against or oppose the Govt. point towards the conclusion that the Police and the Govt. are not incapable of going to any extreme to liquidate its opponents. He cited the grenade attack on Lawyer Weliamunna who had appeared in a number of cases of human rights against the Govt. Weliammuna’s house is in close proximity to the Kohuwala Police station and the check point. The assailant coming in a push bike and lobbing two grenades into the house after passing the Police station and the check point is something of a mystery, he exclaimed.

It is the Govt. which is forcing the UNP and the general public to suspect on these lines,
as it is creating suspicious circumstances by not conducting proper investigations and its failure to make breakthroughs . Even in late Dr. Johnpulle‘s episode, the police idly watched when arson and assaults were committed. A Govt. Minister even turned back a Fire Brigade which came to douse the flames. The Police is yet to make any arrests, he asserted.
