"Sri Lanka on road to perdition"

(October 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, UNP M.P. speaking to the media today (28 Oct), asked why Basil Rajapakse had to go to India on this war crisis when there is a Foreign Minister (FM) who can attend to it.. It is an established practice that whenever Basil goes to India , the FM is in Sri Lanka.. Is this because the President fears that the Foreign relation blunders will become known to the country ? If this Govt. has toed the line of the UNP in its foreign policies, it wont be in this muddle , and Basil need not make urgent tours to India for hush hush discussions. The Govt. is so short sighted that it has no planning in its foreign policies and is thereby estranging its neighboring countries.

Finally, according to reports , the Govt. has been made to realize that without conforming to the 13th amendment and appointing the APRC ; in other words, without following the UNP policies, the Govt. is up against a blank wall .The Govt. can talk, boast and fight an endless war , and deceive the people blaming on the war to overcome burgeoning problems in the country . But, some day it has to face the people and reality , he exclaimed.

As a medical Doctor himself , and as one who could figure out the frauds and inefficiency plaguing a vital public sector –the Health Ministry ,he stated , if the Minster had any sense of shame he should have resigned on the massive blood transfusion scam . Even with the import of drugs for thyroid treatment , a fraud has been exposed – the drugs are sub standard. As the Minister is finally responsible , he should tender a public apology for playing with the lives of patients and resign, he asserted.
