Change foreign policy: Ramadoss

PMK founder S Ramadoss urged the Central government to look into bringing in change in foreign policy on Sri Lanka.

Recalling his various initiatives taken to resolve the ethnic problem, the PMK said that he had presented some proposals when a delegation of leaders from the State led by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently.

He regretted that nothing had fructified so far and till today the Tamils in the island nation have been subjected to untold sufferings. He also favoured on taking the Sril Lankan issue to the Unites Nations.

In his address, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan said the Central government was against the idea of forming Tamil Eelam.

Both Ramadoss and Thirumavalavan urged the Union government to support and recognise the establishment of Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka for it would alone bring a desirable solution to the ethnic problem.

President of the People’s Union of Civil Liberties (Tamilnadu and Puducherry) V Suresh suggested that a team of of international observers be sent to Sri Lanka, including areas under the control of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, to assess the situation with regard to violation of human rights.

Earlier some poets and singers showed their solidarity in favour of bringing in a solution for the ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka through their artistic contributions among thunderous applause from the audience.
