Live and Let Live

“Who else other than the Tamil parents can inject some common sense into those who are cornered in the jungles of Mulativu that they continue to fight for nothing, no Prabhakarn to lead them and no Eelam in sight.”

(January 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It is assumed that Prabhakaran has given the slip to both Indian and Sri Lankan forces and escaped into wilderness, an unknown destination. Who would have believed that a man who built an army, a navy and an air force from scratch and virtually ran a mini separate state for two decades would allow himself to be caught by the forces? Most people believed that he would eat the cyanide pill or get killed in battle. Very few suspected that he would run away. Those very few were adamant that he was too cowardly to die in battle or to commit suicide. They said he had sent his family away into safety and made sure his children get better education while he snatched and send other peoples children to the grave.

The followers whom he has left behind may still have reason to fight although they do not see light at the end of the tunnel. This reason is that he has to live to fight another day. In Prabhakaran’s case will there be another day? If his 30 years effort to build an Eelam is to collapse totally then it will take at least another thirty years to build again. Prabhakaran is 54 now and a diabetic! Once the rest of the tiger leadership is annihilated or dissolved the general public would take the upper hand through democratically elected representatives or on their own accord. It is very unlikely that the public would let Prabhakaran bring misery back into their society. They are dying at the moment with the desire to have peace, lead peaceful lives and to bring up their children to see the world beyond Mulathivu jungles. They would not let Prabhakaran return. It is then a fallacy for Prabhakaran followers to fight and die with the hope that he would come back to fight another day.

The truth is that he has abandoned them. First he had sent his wife and children into safety. Now he himself has gone never to return again. He must have accumulated enough wealth for many generations of his family to live in luxury with the unwavering generosity of the Tamil Diaspora who live in the eternal fantasy of seeing a Tamil kingdom in the South Asian region.

It may now be dawning to parents who sent chair children voluntarily to fight the perceived discrimination of the Sinhalese under the leadership of Prabhakaran that he tried to create a separate country for him and his family to rule, while taking all precautions for the safety of his family and himself if the course failed. They may realise that Prabhakaran had very little consideration for the lives of the children of other parents. The parents whose children have been forcibly conscripted to the LTTE army could be even more saddened to hear that the so called Eelam never realised and they have lost their loved ones while Prabhakaran has his family in tact.

Who else other than the Tamil parents can inject some common sense into those who are cornered in the jungles of Mulativu that they continue to fight for nothing, no Prabhakarn to lead them and no Eelam in sight. While immersed in fallacy they continue to kill others and get themselves killed for no clear cut objective. Why don’t they give up in the name of their parents, other loved ones, all religions and humanity. Give up and announce that you are for the peace! Live and let live!
