UK condemns the killing of Sunday Leader editor

(January 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The United Kingdom condemned the killing of the chief editor of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunga stating that prompt action against those responsible to account is essential in creating an environment all communities in Sri Lanka can live without fear.

The statement issued by the British High Commission said that the UK welcomes the stated commitment of the government to investigate these incidents.

“We condemned in the strongest possible terms the continuing acts of violence and intimidation against the media including the attack on the MTV headquarters and the killing of the Chief Editor of the Sunday Leader”, it stressed. - Sri Lanka Guardian
