Probes on two cases of child abuse

(March 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Extensive investigations have been launched into two cases of child abuse, says the National Child Protection Authority.“Two girls, subject to abuse by close relatives, have already been taken into the protection of the Authority,” says Jagath Wallawatte, Chairman of the Authority.

Information has revealed that one victim is a girl of ten years and a resident of Colombo. Two persons have been arrested, produced before court and subsequently released on bail over the offence.

The other victim is a nine-year-old from Ganemulla who is said to have been sexually abused.

The perpetrators of the Ganemulla incident would be produced before court, said Mr. Wallawatta.
