(March 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara had to bring the house to order on several occasions when government MPs began obstructing the speech of Ravi Karunayake who claimed that the Governor of the Central Bank and a minister had gone to meet officials of the International Monetary Fund.

Chief opposition whip Joseph Michael Perera too expressed his view bringing Minister Mahinda Amarweera to his feet with an immediate response.

However, Dinesh Gunawardena, Chief Government Whip, pointing out that the whole world was facing a grave economic crisis, stressed that all dealings with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank was being done only on conditions that the government could agree with.
