Keerimalai Bandit Viyali’s grandson speaks for the Tigers

Tamilnet at it again with its daily dose of vicious information

By Mohan Gunaratnam reporting from Visuvamadu

(March 05, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) In its daily bulletins of lies and falsehood, the generously funded US Diaspora voice of the LTTE, the Tamilnet.de today March 5, publishes the tale of the Pudukudiyirruppu political head of the Tigers C Ilamparithy, the grandson of the notorious Keerimalai Bandit Viyali, toddy taverner, drug dealer and woman thug who lost three of her sons to violence.

The entirely family was involved in violence during the 1960 and 1970s in an area at the northern tip of Sri Lanka near the famed Keerimalai Spa.

Bandit Viyali, always dressed in totally off the neck and shoulders bare ball-type dress was a villainous public figure that spat defiance and abuse at just about everything she hated and also made a habit of jumping onto moving buses and berate and harangue drivers and conductors. She earned for herself quite an infamous legend. Her presence at the District Court in Mallakam and High Court in Jaffna was a regular feature and treated lawyers as if they were at her beck and call.

It was in such a background in which Ilamparithy grew up and in the end appears to have inherited it very much to his liking.

Illamparithy himself with his band of Tiger goondas terrorized the Jaffna peninsula during the time the Ceasefire Agreement was in operation. Under the guise of doing social work, the LTTE had set up an office called Nandavanam near the University of Jaffna collecting “kappang” from Tamil visitors from overseas to their relatives at the rate of one dollar per day they were away from Sri Lanka.

Whenever a visitor showed reluctance Ilamparithy would open his drawers, take his pistol out to impress as to how they dealt with those who refused to meet his demands.

According to the Tamilnet report, Ilamparithy said that the Sri Lanka government was denying food and medicine to civilians whom it claims as its citizens, He also made direct reference to the pro-LTTE Diaspora saying that they are prepared to help their kith and kin in Wanni.

What Ilamparithy and the Tamilnet.de seem not to understand and perhaps do not want to understand is that it is the LTTE that is forcibly holding the people hostage herded together by a march to this area from all over Wanni as human shield.
