Lankan Tamils supporters lock up govt offices in city

(April 16, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Suspected supporters of Sri Lankan Tamils locked and sealed three Central government office premises in Chennai sending policemen in a tizzy in the early hours of today.

According to police, the gates of offices at Shastri Bhavan and Aaykar Bhavan (income tax office), both at Nungambakkam, and the Head Post Office on Anna Salai, were found locked.
.
The security guards in all the three offices were reportedly present on the premises when the miscreants locked up the gates. After being alerted by the security guard from all the three premises, policemen rushed to the spot.

They broke open the lock which was attached to the gate with a red seal and allowed a few employees who trooped into the premises to resume their work.

Police said they suspect it to be the handiwork of pro-Sri Lanka Tamils, apparently upset over the ceasefire not being implemented in the northern parts of Sri Lanka.

However no complaint had been received so far by any of the senior officials in connection with this, a police officer said. Police suspect the involvement of a gang behind the incident and have spread the dragnet to catch it.
