Tragedy of civilians trapped by Tigers

(April 11, Toronto, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Canadian Democratic League urge the international community, particularly, the Canadian government to work with United nations to influence the Sri Lankan government to bring about a cessation of hostility to allow the entrapped civilians to move to the safe zone.

“At the same time, we also urge the LTTE to refrain from firing from designated no fire zone. Furthermore, the LTTE should stop their forceful recruitment of able bodied men and women including children aged low as twelve into their fighting force,” the organization said in a statement.

“Lastly, we request the government of Canada to issue a press release addressed to both parties to comply with the above and finally we like the government of Canada to urge both warring parties to strictly follow the fundamentals of war concerning civilian population according to international standards.”
