Credit for war victories must be appropriated by the Forces -UNP

(May 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Under this idling Govt., the Ministers do no work for the people though it is they who elected them. The Ministers’ functions are going round campaigning for elections right round the year and speaking incessantly of the war , although the credit for war victories must be appropriated by the Forces who are making the supreme sacrifices, said UNP M.P. Gayantha Karunatileke speaking to the media at the UNP media unit today (4May) . The entire revenue too is spent not for development or people’s welfare ,but for elections and maintenance of the idling Jumbo Cabinet – the largest in the world , he lamented .

The UNP held a special meeting last week attended by MPs,. Candidates, Provincial Council members and Organizers of the Uva and Southern provinces in view of the upcoming Uva and Southern PC elections, he stated. All suitable and interested candidates could send in their applications to be considered for nominations . The selections will be made after an interview and based on their abilities, he noted. All UNPers have been asked to work for the upcoming elections with the enthusiasm and dedication as if this election is a General election , he added.

The Health Minister who has made the Health services most unhealthy and sick also seems to be afflicted mentally , when he said , two days after the last PC elections concluded that those who voted against the Govt. are eating grass . Only one bull can identify another . But, sometimes an overfed bull as in this case goes wrong with such identifications – its size denies it the capacity to identify humans, he quipped.

The Govt. has now made it a practice to raising prices and heaping burdens on the people after every election. This is why it has staggered elections throughout the year wasting people’s funds , so that it can forever burden the people soon after elections. After the last elections ,it has increased the nation building tax from 1% to a ruthless 3%. ,Gas price has been upped while global prices are plummeting and all prices of goods are shooting up in SL with the devaluation of the rupee against the dollar . As of now the dollar rate has shot to Rs. 121/- which has caused all Traders to raise the prices of commodities . It is the people who have to pay the price for all the sins and wrongful fiscal policies followed by the Govt., he regretted.

If this Govt. is to continue , he warned that the people must brace for endless and continued hardships as the Govt. has lost control of itself, its policies and the economic stability.
