Disloyalty should not hurt Dayan.

"The government and the people of Sri Lanka may conclude that the brave GOSL did not give two hoots for the Western pressures in the last battle against the Tigers. The truth was that only a few individuals of the West agitated in order to influence the Western governments to exert pressure on the Sri Lanka government. By and large the people of the West remained silent or indifferent."

(July 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It is extremely shocking but not surprising news that Dayan Jayathilaka’s service has been terminated from 20 August 09 by the Government of Sri Lanka. That is how the politicians, irrespective of the parties they represent, have behaved throughout the modern history of Sri Lanka. Is there any wonder as to why Sri Lanka remains as under developed and poor as she is at present? Is there any sign that she would recover from this sorry state in the foreseeable future? The main reason is that the majority of politicians have no intelligence or education, they are not decent and they do not use but abuse the people who have intelligence and education.

The LTTE and its supportive Tamil Diaspora were able to change world opinion so easily and frequently in the recent past in relation to the LTTE war against the GOSL. The major contributive factor for this success was that the Sri Lanka diplomatic missions are occupied by political henchmen who do not have the capability to handle the local languages or they do not have the necessary cultural understanding of the hosting country. In addition they do not have knowledge of Sri Lanka history, nor have they the knowledge about the recent conflict. They are either close relatives or cronies of the politicians. Sirima Bandaranaike’s government was thrown out of power because the party was infamous for nepotism. Then the people had no option other than to vote for the UNP which has been worse in this regard. It is these two parties come to power from time to time when there is enough of a gap for people to forget the evils of one party.

The government and the people of Sri Lanka may conclude that the brave GOSL did not give two hoots for the Western pressures in the last battle against the Tigers. The truth was that only a few individuals of the West agitated in order to influence the Western governments to exert pressure on the Sri Lanka government. By and large the people of the West remained silent or indifferent. If there was significant pressure from the West no doubt the poor GOSL would give in.

The West remained calm for the efforts of a few individuals who worked hard with their pens to neutralise such pressures. Dayan was one. The service of that silent bunch has never been publicised or recognised. The masses of Sri Lanka even do not know these people because they write in English or other Western languages. The vast majority of Sri Lankans do not read or speak anything other than their native languages. When the Tigers were annihilated the credit was shared among the politicians mainly and a small portion was accorded to the military leaders. I am not sure as to how much the ordinary soldier received. I am sure that the silent warriors who battled against the LTTE propaganda with their pens did not even get a mention let alone being credited. The government has now gone to the extent of saying “we do not need you any more”.

Those heroes worked without getting any perks, recognition or thanks, but at risk to their lives being aware that the LTTE could and still can strike any where in the world. They did it for the nation. They did not do it for the politicians. In fact they do not need the politicians. Politicians need them, at least from time to time. Dayan has performed his role for the nation perfectly. He did it for the nation and the usual disloyalty of the wicked politicians should not hurt him.

The politicians can appoint another of their incompetent relatives to the vacant post and continue to feel great and safe until the time comes when they need to exploit another couple of brains. Brains grow and they will have enough supply of that, and the game continues. Sri Lanka will remain the hell-hole as it is at present with lawlessness prevailing and the politician being able to act with impunity. The eternal truth is that they will become nobody once they lose political power. People like Dayan will have a place on the world stage at anytime for their education and the ability. They do not need to deceive people to remain so. Politics as usual stinks in Sri Lanka. That’s why many intellectuals remain apolitical. A good lesson for the rest!

Good article with truth & reality.Removal of Dayan is another means of victory for LTTE & it's promoters similar to giving weapons secretly to LTTE by a former SL regime. As the writer predicts Dayan's chair could be filled by a half baked potato type henchman, who will assist the bunch of various opportunitists, off shore, misusing so called foreign diplomats but nothing to argue, none can replace Dayan's services/knowledge so much brilliantly, valiantly displayed & suceeded so effectively against a planet of international community crooks with diversed, hidden motives.Dayan, you are a great Sri Lankan asset & all are proud of you. We need your services.Accept our love to you.
