Fonseka's manifesto unveiled

Given below is full text of the Election Manifesto of the Common Opposition Candidate Sarath Fonseka (SF) in the Presidential election 2010

(January 07, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Opposition’s common candidate retried General Sarath Fonseka released his election manifesto in which he pledged to restore democracy, eradicate waste and corruption, remove taxes on essential food items and introduces welfare measures for the needy.

The immediate benefits announced included Rs 10,000 pay raise for public servants, removal of pension anomalies, better prices for paddy farmers and fertilisers at reduced prices in the open market.

‘This manifesto has been prepared taking into consideration the needs of the people of the country,” Fonseka told reporters after the launch of the manifesto at a function in Colombo, attended by opposition leader Ranil Wickremesighe. JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe as well as other parliamentarians and party supporters.

He said the views of all parties supporting him have been taken into consideration when preparing the manifesto.

He also announced more benefits for IDPs to resettle in their homes, a revamping of the heath and educations sectors, and employment for the youth and restore law and order in the country.
