"Govt attempted to 'buy' me for Rs 50m"

( November 12, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Democratic Party (DP) Western Provincial Councilor and actor, Nalin Pradeep Udawela claimed that the government attempted to “buy” him first, promising to pay Rs 50 million in exchange for him crossing over to the ruling party.

Udawela made these revelations during a press conference today (11) regarding the recent crossover of three Democratic Party Provincial Councilors who had pledged support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He alleged that the government had even offered citizenship either in Canada, Australia or Nederland for his entire family as well as a post as Homagama co-organiser if required .

Speaking at the media briefing, Susil Kindelpitiya, a Western Provincial Council member of the same party also stated that the regime has gone bankrupt to such an extent that it has resorted to buying out members of the Democratic Party.

Emphasising that he would not leave the party led by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, Kindelpitiya added that their party leader is prepared to douse the flames of hunger just as he doused the flames of war.
