6 persons shot dead within a few hours in Jaffna

As a part of the killing spree taking place in Jaffna, yesterday 6 persons were killed within a few hours from morning till noon.

K.Thavarajah, 28 years, Jaffna Municipal Council employee was shot injured and succumbed to his injuries after he was taken to hospital.

S. Thevanayagam, 54 years of Chavakachchery Dutch Road was shot dead in front of Mavady Pillayar Kovil in Meesalai while he was on his way to his trade centre at 8.30 a.m.

Three persons of Kaithady were shot dead in three separate incidents. Thambiah Chandramohan, 28 years, a father of two was shot dead in Kaithady east at 11.15 a.m. yesterday while he was at home. K Chelliah, 65 years, a retired Grama Seva Officer was shot dead while he was at home in Kaithady South at 11.00 p.m. Kathiresu Subramaniam, 52 years of Varany North was shot dead while he was heading to Varany market yesterday noon.


Gunmen in motorbikes killed them all and the police are holding inquiries.


Meanwhile sources says, A building contractor was shot dead by gunmen in Pottuvil yesterday at 8.00 p.m.

The victim was identified as Ratnam Pathmaseelan, 28 years of Parathy Road, Pottuvil. The attack was made while he was riding in his bicycle. The body is being kept in the Akkaraipattu hospital and police are conducting inquiries in this regard.
