Another Tamil MP Assassinated (Lead)

(January, 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lanka’s main opposition party the United National Party (UNP) member also Jaffna District Member of Parliament of the party,T. Maheshwaran was assassinated in a gun attack today morning at a Hindu Temple in Katahena, Colombo.

This is one of the serious incidents. Nadarajah Raviraj, 44, Jaffna district Pro- LTTETamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian was shot in Colombo in 2006. The MP succumbed to his wounds at Colombo National Hospital. A lawyer turned politician, former mayor of Jaffna, Mr. Raviraj, elected twice, has been an outspoken parliamentarian who voiced against the extra-judicial killings and forced disapperances in NorthEast and Colombo.

Hence, Joseph Pararajasingham, a Tamil nationalist and Batticaloa district Member of Parliament (MP) of the pro LTTE Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was shot dead at St. Mary's cathedral church in Batticaloa, while attending Christmas prayers early morning 25 December 2005.
