End of Pottu Amman is end of LTTE – Douglas

'Tigers will be shaken if not for him'

(December, 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Minister Douglas Devananda says the only way to bring an end to the LTTE is to kill its head of intelligence Pottu Amman, since he is the person who guides LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran and others in the organisation. "The problem lies with Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman. Pottu Amman is everything for the LTTE. It will be shaken if not for him. He has so much craze for blood," says Minister Devananda. The Minister said he was of the view that the government forces could kill both Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman since the forces managed to kill Thamilselvan and that the LTTE could be defeated only by eliminating its leadership.

"People in Vanni are living in great disappointment but they are helpless. Intelligence information is being provided to the government by the people. This shows how disappointed they are," said the militant turned Minister. Devananda also said the ongoing operations by the security forces against the LTTE shows a winning phase. Commenting on the latest attack on him, and in Nugegoda by the Tigers, the Minister said, "It all depends on their targets and their thinking of how to achieve them. There were civilians around when I was targeted. It was the same with President Ranasinghe Premadasa, Gamini Dissanayake and Indian Premier Rajiv Gandhi. But there were no civilians when General Kobbekaduwa was killed.

When Gotabhaya was targeted in Colombo it was different. They can't take him to a jungle and kill him. So it's all a matter of the target." The Minister who idolises Cuban President Fidel Castro said he has not kept count of the assassination attempts on him by the LTTE and said he expected it to continue until Prabhakaran is alive.
