A new market opens in Parliament

"Can you count how many pigs lives in the Parliments of Sri Lanka?"

(December, 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Of course, people are used to many kinds of markets - Fish market, share market, ‘money’ market, and textile market, ‘world market’ and many others.

For the first time in Sri Lanka, under the Rajapakse Regime. A new market has opened in Parliament; it is the corrupt market or more precisely, the ‘bye and sell’ market!

This market, however, is like the ‘Bombay bazaars ‘and ‘festival bazaars’ (which last for the festival season only.); this market will remain open for MP’s only until the final reading of the budget.

An MP who says ‘bye’ to his party, deserts his voters and sells himself is gifted a portfolio free of charge by the Govt. But, mind you! This ‘bye and sell’ bazaar is only until 14th of Dec. till the budget vote is passed, unlike the Christmas sale which lasts till the Christmas day.

It is learnt that with people’s representatives becoming more and more ‘saleable commodities’ with a price tag , the ‘bye and sell’ business is fast and flourishing !
