Israel: 60 years of occupation has not halted Palestinian Resistance

“Hamas keeps up its home – made Qassem rocket attacks on Israel and refuses to surrender to Israel , the mighty US and its European allies. The Hamas record of magnificent steadfastness cannot be halted. Their cause is just, their moral authority very high and their faith in final victory certain. The leaders and people living in Ghazzah have both demonstrated a remarkable capacity to absorb Israeli pressure and maintain their spirits and morale.”

(April 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Zionist State of Israel, the US and the European Union, since the election of Hamas in January 2006 have exhausted all attempts to marginalize this Islamic Movement which has been steadfast in resisting the occupation of their land, Palestine. The economic blockade in where Hamas is now entrenched has reduced its people to near starvation.
The people of Ghazzah are living in appalling conditions in what is electively an open – air giant concentration camp the largest on this planet. Besides the economic blockade there is the almost daily incursions of Israeli troops into Ghazzah and the West Bank for the purpose of killing suspected militants or extremists. Several are rounded up and imprisoned. In addition the homes of suspected militants are bulldozed and destroyed and power is frequently cut. In their raid into Ghazzah the Israeli indiscriminately kill civilians even children and babies. Israel has cruelly imposed a Holocaust in the Gaza .

It is indeed a marvel that is astounding and amazing that a small Islamic group with very limited and antiquated weapons has managed to continue this resistance with all these offensives from Israel , with support of the US and its European allies. Hamas keeps up its home – made Qassem rocket attacks on Israel and refuses to surrender to Israel , the mighty US and its European allies. The Hamas record of magnificent steadfastness cannot be halted. Their cause is just, their moral authority very high and their faith in final victory certain. The leaders and people living in Ghazzah have both demonstrated a remarkable capacity to absorb Israeli pressure and maintain their spirits and morale.

The latest developments in the Ghazzah has had serious consequences on the will and morale of the Israeli army and its people to continue the war against the Hamas. Several Israeli soldiers have been killed by Hamas fighters and the regular Qassem rocket attacks continue unabated. Hamas believes that if Hezbollah in July 2006 could stand against the powerful Israeli army in Lebanon , it could also stand against this same Israel army in Ghazzah.

On the diplomatic front Hamas has been encouraged by the meeting of its leader in exile Khalid Meshaal in Syria with former president Jimmy Carter who believes that all parties to the conflict must be consulted otherwise there will be no peace. Two meetings took place in Damascus on 18th and 19th April. On the 17th of April two Hamas officials also had discussions with former president Carter in Cairo .

As for back as in November 2006 Khalid Meshaal, the political leader of the Hamas Movement told the German daily “ Junge Welt”. I think the western world has understood by now that Hamas will never recognize Israel occupation. How can I recognize the one who occupies my land? It is illogical that it is demanded of Hamas to recognize Israel . I am the man living in the diaspora, away from my land. Israel has got a kind of a nation that was imposed as a fait accompli by the United Nations. We don’t have a nation. More than half of the Palestinian people are living in the diaspora, mostly in refuge camps and they can’t go home. Because of Israel they can’t go home and we should recognize Israel ? Who is actually in the wrong Israel on us?

The years of Palestinian resistance, rendering complete failures in all Israeli’s attempts to impose surrender on them, have forced increasing numbers in Israel and the West to accept that a Palestinian state is inevitable. Even the Israelis now yearn for peace and due to the continues war many of them have left Israel to their original homes in Europe .

Although the situation of the Palestinians remains extremely difficult, and many more will no doubt die as Israel tries desperately to maintain its failing position, the resistance of the people of Ghazzah over the past few months particularly, in the last two weeks and the success of Hamas in maintaining a principled Islamic position and popular support and credibility among both Palestinians and many Arab and Muslims outside Palestine, may well prove in future to have been a turning point in he Palestinian struggle. The Hamas which was cruelly marginalized will soon be in a position to propose a ten year truce, based on withdrawal to the boundaries of 1947, a total and genuine ceasefire, and the establishment of a genuinely independent Palestine in the West Bank and Ghazzah. Talks on outstanding issues would take place at the end of this period.

Time is on the side of the Palestinians they may even go so far as to drive away the Israelis altogether from the land of the whole of Palestine which legitimately belongs to them.
