Masks removed by Reckless Marxists: Internal Conflict Output

“When comrade Rohana Wijeweera began the struggle, a conspirator was taken out of the path. Similarly, we will remove the conspirators in our path and get the party back on track from today.”

(April 08, Colombo, Seri Lanka Guardian) A media conference organized by a group of JVP MPs in support of the suspended Wimal Weerawansa was disrupted by Anurdhapura district parliamentarian Ranaweera Pathirana who had initially declared his allegiance with the defectors.

Eleven MPs of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna organized the briefing at Hotel Nippon in Colombo at 2.30 pm today (Apr. 08th).

Mr. Weerawansa did not participate due to security reasons, while there was a large presence of police and Air Force personnel in the vicinity of the venue.

At the outset, Kalutara district parliamentarian Piyasiri Wijenayake explained the problematic situation in the party.

However, Mr. Pathirana obstructed his colleague and painted a completely contradictory picture, which led to a tense and heated situation.

According to Mr. Wijenayake, the JVP has been unable to carryout its responsibilities by the public due to pressure from imperialists and a few conspirators.

In this backdrop, the group decided to function independently in a bid to get the party and those who are in the wrong, in the correct path, he said.

However, Mr. Pathirana disagreed, and criticised Mr. Weerawansa for the speech he made in Parliament earlier in the day.

The dispute could be sorted out through discussion with the party leadership, he said.

Except Mr. Pathirana, all other MPs in the group agreed with their former Parliamentary Group leader’s speech.

The party has conspirators at various levels, and they could have penetrated even the news conference that was underway, Mr. Wijenayake claimed.

“When comrade Rohana Wijeweera began the struggle, a conspirator was taken out of the path. Similarly, we will remove the conspirators in our path and get the party back on track from today,” he said.

When the media challenged him to name the conspirators, the JVP MP said it was not the time to expose them, and that they still had time to correct themselves.

Questioned about a possible change in the leadership of the party, Mr.
Wijenayake declined to comment, saying that a decision in that regard would be taken at a party convention.

The media conference was attended by Piyasiri Wijenayake and Jayantha Samaraweera (Kalutara), Priyankara Dissanayake and Samansiri Herath (Puttalam), Padma Udaya Shantha (Moneragala), Achala Jagoda and Deepal Gunasekara (Ratnapura), Nimal Premawansa (Nuwara Eliya), Ranaweera Pathirana (Anuradhapura), Sujatha Alahakoon (Matale) and National List MP Mohamed Muzammil.

Mr. Wijenayake also claimed that the MPs Ranaweera Pathirana and Mohamed Muzammil had disrupted the briefing at the instigation of JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe.

At its conclusion, Mr. Pathirana refused to accompany the other party MPs and left Hotel Nippon under the protection of a police team led by SSP Ajith Fonseka and SP Premalal Ranagala.
