“Satakaye Sapaya”

“The huge crowds at the demonstrations loudly vowed to drive out this corrupt, tyrannical, inefficient and lawless Rajapakse regime along with its `curse of the shawl` or `Satakaye Sapaya ` via this campaign, and to install a UNP regime which is the only Govt. that is a repository of the hopes of the presently hopeless and hapless masses!”

(April 03, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The UNP launches its island wide protest campaign `Satakaye Sapaya erahiwa viyaparaya`today (03 April) at 10.00 a.m. at all Main Towns in the country.

According to reports received, this protest campaign proved to be a resounding success going by the massive crowds which thronged the Towns in support of this campaign. Indeed, mammoth crowds which gathered even exceeded expectations of the Organisers.

The large crowds shouted slogans and protested against the Rajapakse Govt.`s absolute failure to provide urgent solutions to the country`s burning problems. They also urged he Govt. Not to drive the country further into irredeemable despair and devastation. They demonstrated against the Govt.`s inability to solve the ethnic war leading the country into panic and fear, while also turning a blind eye to the escalating cost of living, and rapid steep price hikes burdening and crippling the people. Amidst unexpected crowds joining in the protests, people began breaking chutty (clay) pots and pans on the roads shouting.

`These kitchen utensils are of no use as we are starving under this Govt. and no food has been cooked in them for several days owing to the high cost of living and prices of food. `They also protested against the Govt.`s efforts to plunge the country to an unprecedented Black Sinhala New year without food, money, peace and freedom.

The huge crowds at the demonstrations loudly vowed to drive out this corrupt, tyrannical, inefficient and lawless Rajapakse regime along with its `curse of the shawl` or `Satakaye Sapaya ` via this campaign, and to install a UNP regime which is the only Govt. that is a repository of the hopes of the presently hopeless and hapless masses!

This Campaign will be intensified and conducted Island wide in the future: meetings, seminars and processions will also be conducted, said Tissa Attanayake, Gen. Secretary of the UNP.
