(April 03, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) A local court has restrained a film lab in Chennai from releasing prints of Sinhalese film 'Prabhakaran' which is said to hurt sentiments of the Tamil community.

The interim order was issued by Chennai civil court Judge Sethu Madhavan.

The order came on a suit filed by the local political group Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, VCK, which backs the LTTE.

It is presumed the film has been named after leader of the LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran.

VCK leader Thirumavalavan says the film by Sri Lankan produer Osmand De-Silva,'is highly malicious and contained bunches of treacherous allegations and offending dialogues totally insulting the Tamil community as a whole'.

Some scenes in the film depict the majority Sinhalese population as having been displaced in the island, living in poorly maintained refugee camps and starving, the plaintiff contended.

The film shows the whole ethnic war in that country as being conducted by the LTTE using teenaged boys, he added.

Video: Prabhakaran is probably the first film made on the ongoing war in Sri Lanka that devoured thousands of lives.

The party's cadres and functionaries after coming to know that the city laboratory was processing the film in a 'secret' manner, had filed the suit for a direction to the Tamil Nadu government to consfiscate the negatives, positives and sound tracks relating to the film.

The judge ordered issue of notice to the film producer and others and posted the matter to April 8 for hearing.
