16 civilians killed in a Claymore attack in Vanni

(May 23, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) 16 civilians, including 6 children, four girls and two boys, were killed in a Claymore attack that targeted a Hiace van returning from Muzhangkaavil hospital to Kilinochchi on Murikandi - Akkaraayan Road Friday around 2:15 p.m., initial reports from Ki'linochchi said.

According to the LTTE sources in Wanni, "the SLA has stepped up DPU attacks in LTTE controlled Wanni as the region was observing a national mourning day following the demise of LTTE's Senior Commander Brigadier Balraj." But Sri Lankan Govt. has totally rufused the LTTE's claimed.

However, 16 dead bodies, 4 males, 6 females and 6 children, were brought to Ki'linochchi hospital.

Two wounded were also brought to the hospital, according to medical sources.
