Govt. must allow people to elect a Govt. if it cannot solve problems- Ranil

(June 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Addressing former provincial Councillors of the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Province at his Office at Cambridge place, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of the Opposition and UNP reiterated that the need of the hour is a General election to allow the people to democratically elect a Govt. of its choice, instead of wasting large sums of money on Provincial Council (PC) polls whimsically fixed by the Govt. before the due dates to distract people’s attention from their burning problems.

Are the people protesting to hold PC elections? All protests are against the Govt.’s incapacity to bring down the cost of living, wasteful expenditures and State sector corruption. Govt. instead of focusing on those issues is talking of meaningless PC polls, he regretted.

It is high time the Govt. stopped its playing with lives and livelihoods of the people, and acted in the sincere interests of the masses who elected them into power, not, for the Govt. to keep them in a fool’s paradise forever.

The UNP will unrelentingly and unhesitatingly continue its protest campaigns against the Govt.’s myopic and ill conceived policies and actions, he exhorted.

Here we go again. The biggest con artist and fool of Sri Lanka has opened his mouth again. This man Ranil never learns.

Lets logically look at what this man is saying. Not only he lost so many elections, but as soon as he loses an election he demands to dissolve that elected government complaining of many irregularities forgetting how UNP won elections from JR to Ranil. He was elected as PM once then his best pal Chandrika chased him out. He lost the next election, then started his usual moaning and groaning. His first demand is again another general election to be held. After the capture of East Ranil challenged the government to hold election in the East 'if it is liberated' he said. As soon as election was declared he complained that it is illegal to hold election as long as there are armed men, wanting to satisfy LTTE demand to disarm Karuna faction so that LTTE can wipe Karuna faction, which will help Ranil to win the East. Another very obvious fact of this man's demands are very similar to that of LTTE. Can they be coincidences? It is upto each individual to make their minds about it. Then as soon as his demands failed what did he do? He joined hand with the second biggest racist (Hakeem) in Sri Lanka who has signed a pact with Psychopath Prabha and who has also openly demanded an area for Muslims to call their home.

During the election of East Ranil complained about him not getting the treatment of a VIP. He knows very well that he is safe from LTTE. But this man likes nothing but to complain. This man has promised to topple the government from the day he lost the election and very openly gave dates to do it.

Then after the election of the East he demanded again to have election, the same old thing. Now that two Provincial councils were dissolved and what did he do? He started complaining and challenging it and saying that it costs the poor man's money. Another spokes person of Ranil, Ravi K has said today "Millions of people are starving while Govt. is wasting billions on needless elections". Isn't it obvious that these guys are completely and utterly confused and trying their best to stop the war against their friend Psychopath Prabha and the West? At no time Ranil and his goons has praised the troops who is sacrificing their lives to liberate the country from the menace of terrorism. They have ridiculed the forces achievements and complain of civilian killings by the forces all the time but never ever condemned the LTTE for their massacres of innocent babies, pregnant women, children, women, and old people. When the innocent are killed by LTTE Ranil and UNP blame the government for that instead of LTTE. When the forces commenced its war against the LTTE Ranil and goons were the first to declare that it can never be won. Why do Ranil and current UNP trying hard to stop the war against most ruthless Terrorists in the world? If the LTTE was defeated who is going to lose most? Why JVP also giving every headache to the government by disrupting and misleading the people of Sri Lanka by demonstrating on the streets at the cost of 'poor people's money'?

It is very clear and common sense that UNP and JVP is to lose the most. If this government or any government defeats the terrorists, the opposition party at the time will not come to power in the foreseeable future as people of Sri Lanka will be relieved of this menace and support the party who defeated the terrorists. When IPKF was in Sri Lanka under UNP this same leadership of JVP created mayhem in the south and demanded IPKF is being thrown out giving another lifeline to LTTE. UNP never understood that terrorism should be defeated to have peace and for reasons known to UNP only. Probably they were under pressure from the West or friends of LTTE or religious leaders in Sri Lanka and overseas. So it is very obvious UNP and JVP will try their very best to stop the war at any cost to the country to save their own dreams of coming to power.

One have to ask what would UNP or JVP do if the world market price of oil goes up? One has to look at the past between 1977 and 1994 to understand how many times the UNP increased the fuel prices. Then how many times under Chandrika it was increased? Why did not they applied the same theory then not to increase the prices? What would they have done if they were in power?

Ranil has failed not only in elections, but as the leader of the once great UNP, also failed in all the disruption he created. I like to know who is giving these ideas to Ranil to make him a fool in front of millions.

If he was a good leader he should think of the country first and look at other countries who faced with terrorism and learn . There may be differences between the two parties but at a time of crisis to the country Ranil should support the government to defeat the terrorism. He should first of all learn to think before speaking. He should collect evidence and legally challenge the wrong doings of the government. He must show the country that he is a responsible leader who can be trusted to govern the country. He must prove that he will never again divide the country. When he was the PM he had the opportunity and the evidence to take Chandrika to court (ref: Chaura ragini by Victor Ivan) but he did not do it. Why did not he do it? People of Sri Lanka deserve to know the reason. US, UK and Australian oppositions were against the war with the Al Qeuda and the invasion of Iraq. But when the war started the opposition of these countries supported the war effort putting country first. Result was that the opposition parties are now winning the elections. The reason is these oppositions acted responsibly and wisely.

So please Ranil learn from the wise and not from goons around you. You are now known as the "mage honda gon wassa" of Sri Lanka for good reasons.
