Kanimozhi takes sarcastic potshots at Ramadoss

(June 16, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) The growing bad blood between the DMK- PMK echoed at the DMK’s women’s conference in Cuddalore today. Giving it amplification was DMK chief’s daughter M Kanimozhi, who is hoping to carve a political niche for herself through this conference.

Kanimozhi, who has already been foisted on the public of Tamilnadu as a poetess, today took her first tentative steps as a Dravidian politician —— that is, indulged in rhetoric and couched criticism.

Speaking at the concluding day of the conference today, Kanimozhi indirectly took a dig at Ramadoss. Without naming the PMK leader, she said, Karunanidhi was appreciated by E V R Periyar himself and in his political life he has passed out in distinction. ‘Nobody can dare evaluate his services to the people and rank the performance of his government.’

The trenchant reference was obviously to the ‘fail marks’ that PMK supremo S Ramadoss ‘awarded’ to the DMK government on the day it completed two years in office.

‘Karunanidhi is fighting for the cause of Tamils like his mentor Karunanidhi was appreciated by Periyar on several occasions. Periyar referred to him as doctor’, Kanimozhi said, and added sarcastically that the doctor here in question was Karunanidhi.

The below-the-belt hit on Ramadoss (whose general appellation in the political circles is doctor) will doubtless trigger some fresh counterattack from him.

Hitherto the exchanges between the PMK and the DMK were confined to the top level. Ramadoss is most likely to not take lying down this sniping for political novice like Kanimozhi.

Earlier, Kanimozhi targetted the AIADMK and the BJP in her speech.

Stating that Hindutva forces are re-grouping in the State, she said the Chief Minister was fighting a battle against such evil forces on the lines of Dr Ambedkar, Ayodhidasar and Narayana Guru. ‘We all witnessed the ugly face of Hindutva in Gujarat.

Narendra Modi, who was behiond all the chaos, was hosted a dinner by AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa. She let loose terror against government employees, teachers and road workers during her regime. If she is re-elected, Tamilnadu will become another Gujarat.’

Urging women to stay away from the lure of Hindutva, she urged women not to fall a prey to them.

Earlier, the women’s wing of the DMK urged Karunanidhi to implement 33 per cent reservation in the intra-party polls.

A grand procession by women volunteers of the party was held last evening which was inspected by Karunanidhi. It was followed by a political conference at the Manjakuppam grounds in which senior leaders of the party spoke.

The Cuddalore town wore a festive look with festoons and banners of Karunanidhi erected everywhere.

On the concluding day today, the DMK’s women’s wing secretary Pudukottai Vijaya delivered the inaugural address. The portraits of Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy, Moovaloor Ramamirtham and poet Bharathidasa were unveiled at the venue of the conference this morning.

Speakers at the conference highlighted the various welfare measures initiated by the DMK government for the betterment of the womenfolk.

DMK Rajya Sabha MP Vasanthi Stanley urged the Chief Minister to implement 33 per cent reservation in the intra-party polls.

State Ministers, DMK MPs and MLAs, and prominent leaders of the party took part.
