`Time ripe for MDMK to taste victory'

(June 19, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Chennai regional conference of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), which was an apparent attempt by its general secretary Vaiko to showcase the might of the party in view of the coming Lok Sabha polls, ended with a positive note to assume power in Tamilnadu.

Addressing party workers, Vaiko said 'time has come for the MDMK to taste the victory as it had successfully crossed hurdles and won struggles in the past 14 years since its inception.'

Launching a slew of tirades against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and the DMK government, the MDMK leader alleged that a lot of power theft was done during the recent Women's Wing meet of the ruling DMK at Cuddalore.

Stating that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy were responsible for the theft, Vaiko showed some of the photographs as a proof to the illegal supply of electricity to the conclave.

In a sarcastic tone, he said, 'Karunanidhi is facing attacks from all sides. Right from the allies to his own family members, no one is there to give solace to him. Hence I feel pity for the octogenarian.'

Vaiko, a former DMK man, said, 'the purpose for which Annadurai established the party has died. Now DMK has become a family property of Kalaignar.'

He expressed the confidence that AIADMK, with the support of his party, would get majority of seats in Tamilnadu in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Vaiko wanted to know whether the government was ready to appeal against the acquittal of Karunanidhi's son M K Azhagiri in the T Kiruttinan murder case.

On the rise in inflation rates, cost of fuel prices, LPG and vegetables, Vaiko said the country was facing a difficult situation because of these problems.

Others spoke include party treasurer M Kannappan, former MP Chezhian and MDMK deputy general secretary Mallai Sathya.

BITS AND PIECES

Priyamani the cheer leader

The entire crowd made a thunderous applause when one of the speakers said that the National Award winning actress Priyamani had once said in an interview that she admired Vaiko a lot.

Dumb Durai

AIADMK propaganda secretary V Thambidurai, who attended the conference on behalf of his leader J Jayalalithaa did not show any reaction when most of the speakers vowed to make Vaiko the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

Truly tiger

Whenever a speaker expressed solidarity to Lankan Tamils or LTTE, MDMK workers shouted with joy to show their support. An activist even carried a tiger doll with him and gained attention from others.

Nanchil Sampath steals the show

If there is one who attracted the crowd at the conference after Vaiko, then it is the party's orator Nanchil Sampath. Not just ordinary members of the MDMK, but top honchos of the party too hailed him a lot.

Vaiko the globetrotter

In his speech, Vaiko not only talked about the current political scenario, but touched from Karl Marx to Abraham Lincoln to Lord Krishna to Obama to Mandela.

Crossing the limit

The MDMK meet clearly violated the recent Madras High Court ruling that barred the conduct of public meetings beyond 10 pm, as it extended up to 11.30 pm.

Mr.Vaiko's stand on (UPA government's $ 100 million aid to the Sri Lankan Government as an ''unforgivable betrayal of the Tamil race'') is right & widely appreciated, despite his efforts and suggestions to the ruling UPA Govt. & frequent letters to Prime minister & Other responsible ones is given a cold shoulder & theyve been deaf heared...... As Mr.Vaiko told we are in the 15 round of the game & our victory is very near.... kaalam maarum, kaatchigal maarum, thamiz inam ulagin endha pagudhiyilum kaapatrappadum...
