LTTE appeal to Karunanidhi to assist in their Eelam struggle - P. Nadesan

"Kalaingnar Karunanidhi is a person with love for Tamil language and a man with full of Tamil sentiments. He has a deep interest in the Eelam Tamil affairs. As blood is thicker than water, seeing the despicable situation of the Tamils in Eelam, he remains emotively stern. We fervently hope that the personal emotions of Kalaningar should turn into the emotions of the great organization DMK and along with the other political parties in Tamil Nadu, these should turn into supportive of our struggle and should shock and awe the enemies of the Eelam Tamils."

(July 06, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Given below the excerpts of the interview given by P. Nadesan, the political head of the LTTE, to ‘Kumudam’, a popular Tamil weekly from Chennai, Tamil Nadu:

Kumudam : The areas under the control of the Tigers are under heavy attack and it is said that the Tigers are continuously facing setbacks?

P.Nadesan:
Sinhala Government is continuously carrying on a propaganda to show that the Tigers are weakened, but there is no truth in this. Furthermore, in the history of the Tamil Tigers, more than twenty thousand of our carders martyred for the sake of our nation. In the last 30 years many commanders have met with heroic deaths. New commanders are being trained; these are all simple things in a history of a freedom struggle of a nation.

Kumudam: Indian Government is continuously providing radars to the Sri Lanka Army and also providing training to their Air Force personals?

P.Nadesan:
In the island of Sri Lanka the Sinhala Army is continuously killing the Tamil people. We regret very much that India is providing help to such a Government. These helps will give opportunity for the Sinhala Government to kill more Tamils. The 80 million Tamil people in the World expect the Indian Government understand the atrocities of the Sinhala Army and stop providing military hardware to Sri Lanka.

Kumudam: In Tamil Nadu many people have been arrested for smuggling medicines, petrol and walkie-talkies and due to these arrests it is said that the Liberation Tigers have been crippled?

P. Nadesan:
Tigers have no connection with such smuggling activities. This is a false propaganda to threaten the Tamil Eelam supporters.

Kumudam: Sri Lanka Army has become a permanent threat to the Tamil Nadu fishermen; at times it is being told that the fishermen are being attacked by the Liberation Tigers?

P.Nadesan :
This is a concocted story by those elements opposed to our struggle. The Tamil Nadu fishermen are our brothers; we are very firm in safeguarding our brothers, at any price.

Kumudam : How is the approach of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi regarding the issues of Eelam Tamils?

P.Nadesan:
Kalaingnar Karunanidhi is a person with love for Tamil language and a man with full of Tamil sentiments. He has a deep interest in the Eelam Tamil affairs. As blood is thicker than water, seeing the despicable situation of the Tamils in Eelam, he remains emotively stern. We fervently hope that the personal emotions of Kalaningar should turn into the emotions of the great organization DMK and along with the other political parties in Tamil Nadu, these should turn into supportive of our struggle and should shock and awe the enemies of the Eelam Tamils.

Kumudam: Do you think that Karunanidhi is very strict on the Tigers because of the pressure exerted by the Central Government of India?

P.Nadesan:
Kalaingnar is a person who has carried with him the Tamil consciousness in many struggles against the Central Government and it is a mistake to say that he is running an administration pressurized by the Central Government. Whatever said and done, it is not a wrong idea for us to expect that the Kalaingnar should consider beyond the borders of India’s national as well as regional political confines, but it is important that he should come forward to help the liberation of the Eelam Tamils.

Kumudam: What is the difference in handling the Sri Lanka’s issues by Chandrika Kumaratunge, Ranil Wickeramsinghae and Mahinda Rajapakese?

P.Nadesan:
There is no differences at all. Chandrika and Rajapakese are the hawks who used to openly expose racial discriminations. Ranil has been identified by the international community as one who love peace. In fact he is like Jayewardene who is vile and cunning like a fox. He supports the war campaign carried out by Rajapakese.

Kumudam: Today at a situation full of crisis, what do the Tigers wish to say to the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Central Government of India?

P.Nadesan:
It is history that during the Indo-Sino war as well as during the Indo-Pakistan wars, the Sinhala Government always took an opposing position against India; during those periods, the Eelam Tamils always supported India. Therefore at this time where Eelam Tamils are shedding their blood and struggling for their own liberation, we expect the Indian Government to stop supporting the Sinhala Government and support us in favor of our struggle for liberation.

Kumudam: Recently Karunanidhi has told that Pazha Nedumaran has exploited the Eelam Tamils for his personal benefits?

P.Nadesan:
Nedumaran has supported for a long time our liberation struggle without any dejection or frustration. Always the Eelam Tamils will have in their memories of his greatest contribution and pay due respect to him.

Kumudam: How do the Tigers view Priyanka’s meeting with Nazhini, who has been sentenced for her involvement in the Rajiv Gandhi’s murder case?

P.Nadesan:
We think that Priyanka has gone and met Nazhini without any political agenda, but purely on humanitarian concerns.
