(July 14, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka Guardian) Many fishermen folks in Trincomalee had been negatively affected by fishing restrictions that had been enforced in Eastern Seas.

“The LTTE often disguise themselves as fishermen and attack Navy. Now, the Navy had put fishing restrictions that we are suffering,” according to K. Ramaligham who spoke to Sri Lanka Guardian from Trincomalee.

“ The so called sole representative LTTE is hopeless. They do not care about us Trincomalee Tamils at all. The government too need to understand and work something out for us fisher folks,” he added.

Meanwhile, the activities of once nationally famous Trincomalee fish market is very slow, according to our observers.

However, several Navy officials expressed positively that the fishing restrictions will be reduced soon as Navy liberate Eastern areas north to Trincomalee.
