A farmer and boy killed in claymore attack in Nedunkerni



(August 29, Kilinochchi, Sri Lanka Guardian) A farmer and a boy were killed in a claymore attack by the SLA in Olumadhu in Nedunkerni in Vavuniya north at 4.00pm Thursday, 28 August 2008, the Political Wing of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam said in a statement.

According to the statement received by Sri Lanka Guardian, “the motorbike in which the pair was travelling came under the claymore attack as they were brining vegetables to the market. Most of the people from Nedunkerni have already displaced, however, few farmers remain hoping to harvest the produce for which they have already invested heavily."

“In the meantime, fishermen of Chemmalai in the Mullaithivu district were attacked by the SLA at sea. According to the fishermen, they had spread their nets at 3.00am yesterday morning and were waiting when the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) arrived at 6.00pm and began attacking. More than 16 Dvora boats of the SLN attacked the fishermen. The boats belonging to the fishermen were destroyed and the fishermen were forced to swim to safety. The fisherman also lost their valuable nets in the attack.”
