Four arrested in connection with attack on Ranjan



(August 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Four supporters of the UPFA have been arrested in connection with the mob attack on the UNP Chief Ministerial candidate for the Sabaragamuwa province Ranjan Ramanayaka.

The four men will be produced before Courts this morning, DIG Sabaragamuwa Upali Hewage said.

Several more are to be arrested as shortly, he added.

Mr.Ramanayaka and UNP MP Dunesh Gankanda sustained minor injuries in the attack on their vehicle on Wednesday night while seven vehicles belonging to UNP supporters were also damaged in it.

UPFA candidate in the upcoming polls Atula Kumara Rahubadda meanwhile has lodged a complaint with the Police saying that the incident occurred when the UNP supporters had attempted to assault the UPFA supporters who had gathered for an election meeting in his support close to where the incident took place.
