(August 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Award winning filmmaker, Somaratne Dissanayake's latest film 'Siri Raja Siri' (King Siri) won the Jury’s special award at the recently held Mexico International film Festival. In addition to the Mexico festival, the children film revolving around a talented child from a rural background who is selected to a leading college in the town and the challenges he had to face thereafter is to be contested for a number of festival around the world.
It will be contested at Rimouski Film Festival in Canada starting from August 24, Nairobi International Film Festival in Kenya on first week of September and Auolu Film Festival in Finland in October and the film also will be screened at the non competitive section of the London Film Festival in November.
The film depicts the two different worlds of the children of well-to- do and powerful parents but who have no connection to the country's culture, language or way of living as opposed to the talented children coming from the rural, under privileged background who have respect for culture and tradition.
The film also is critical of the system of education and the type of generation produced specially by the privileged schools in the country. It stars Jayalath Manoratne, Mahendra Perera Dilhani Ekanayaka, Sanath Gunathilaka and child actors Kokila Jayasuriya and Sharanya Jayakody.
In the technical crew, the film was edited by Ravindra Guruge and camera directed by Channa Deshappriya. To the production of Renuka Balasooriya, the film was scripted and directed by Somaratne Dissanayake.
