Navy Commander completes a fruitful Visit to Bangladesh




(August 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) At a special invitation extended by Bangladesh Navy Commander Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam, ndu, psc, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psc, made an official visit to Bangladesh from the 10 to the 14 August 2008.

During his visit, Sri Lanka Navy Commander met Lajuddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh, Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam, ndu,psc, Commander of Bangladesh Navy, General Moeen U Ahmed, ndc, psc, Commander of Bangladesh Army, and Air Marshal Shah Mohamed Ziaur Rahman, Commander of Bangladesh Air Force and held several rounds of discussions with a view to strengthen the long standing ties of bilateral relations and friendships.

The Navy commander held a number of special discussions which were aimed at collective eradication of regional terrorism, fostering of bilateral relations and increasing the number of places for Sri Lankan naval personnel in courses conducted in Bangladesh.

The Navy commander later visited Bangladesh institute of Peace Support Operation and Training (BIPSOT) at Rajendrapur cantonment, Gazipur and Chittagong Naval Academy.

Sri Lankan Navy Commander extended his gratefulness to the Government and the people of Bangladesh for providing warm hospitality during his visit to Bangladesh.

After the successful completion of his official visit to Bangladesh, the Navy Commander returned to the island on the 14th August 2008.
