TRO UK Ltd on full swing

(August 10, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation UK Ltd which was founded by the Trustees of now defunct charity Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation in 2005 has entered into a major fund raising campaign in the UK. Its official website states: ‘Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation UK Ltd is a registered non profit making company limited by guarantee Reg No: 05615574’

Company search reveals TROUK Ltd was incorporated on 8 November 2005. It remained inactive until recently due to adverse publicity in the media at the time of its formation. One of the founder members of TROUK Ltd is Dr Namasivayam Sathiyagamoorthy k/a Dr Moorthy. He was the Chairman of the UK Charity Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation which was shut down following Charity Commission investigations into its involvement with the LTTE.

The fund raising campaign of the TROUK Ltd is extensive. It has published information about its fund raising activities in the LTTE front websites. In addition, it is sending email and text message appeals to Tamil people for funds. The message said: ‘1000 of Tamils have been displaced by SLA & are living under trees without adequate food or medicine. Pls lend ur support by contributing to provide a meal? www.trouk.org.uk’.

By law only registered charities are permitted to raise funds publicly. A concerned Tamil said ‘it is unclear how TROUK Ltd could blatantly go public to raise funds when it is not a registered Charity’. He further said; ‘by registering simply as a guarantee company TRO UK Ltd cannot go on the public for funds’.
