Voting ends with a turnout of over 60%



(August 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Voting at the North Central and Sabaragamua Provincial Council elections came to and end at 4 pm today with an estimated voter turnout of over 60 percent from both provinces, elections officials said.

There were no major incidents reported during the course of the day apart from some scattered minor incidents, and issues relating to the identification of some voters according to elections monitors.

Officials are currently in the process of making arrangements for ballot boxes to be sent to counting centres under police protection.
