[September 01, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Guardian] S. Chandrakanthan alias Pillaiyan, the recently-elected Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, was attacked by some women when he visited Wakare , near Batticaloa, on Saturday (Aug. 30) morning.People close to the Chief Minister confirmed the incident, when quizzed by the Sri Lanka Guardian web newspaper.
It all began with a lone woman, whose husband and son, had been victims of the Pillayan faction tried to take out her ire on Pillaiyan. Other women and villagers reportedlyl joined.
The Provincial administration and the police have ordered a thorough investigation.
