One fisherman killed, 100 injured in firing by SLN



(September 28, Rameswaram, Sri Lanka Guardian) One fisherman was killed and 100 injured in firing allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy when they were fishing near Katchatheevu., media based in Chennai reports.

According to the Media reports, “Murugan, the deceased fisherman hailing from Thataneri in Madurai and others who ventured into the sea in 40 mechanised boats, were fishing in Sri Lankan waters when the incident took place last night, police said.”

The injured fishermen alleged that the Navy personnel also attacked them with iron rods and threw their catch into the sea.

Revenue District Officer Poonkodi handed over a cheque of Rs three lakh to the family of the deceased.
