"United Lanka or divided Lanka, govt. accountable"

(September 12, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) TNA Jaffna district Parliamentarian told Parliament that whether the country stands united or divided it is in the hands of the government.

He was addressing the House on the debate on the extension of emergency. The following is the text of his address in Parliament:

If the government is committed to the policy that war is the only solution to the ethnic problem, then it must not be forgotten that the LTTE could also take up a similar stand.

The LTTE captured Vanni area from the control of the government 10 years ago. Now, the security forces may have captured certain areas. But, the war cannot be won.

The government carries out war propaganda among the Sinhala people and makes them believe in a military solution. Although two years have rolled by, since President Rajapakse assumed duties, there have been no signals for peace from the government.

While the Tamil youths and sinhala youths are fighting a battle shedding their blood, these people are raising racist and communal slogans in an air conditioned House.

We are prepared to resolve the crisis in a peaceful manner, but, does the government have a solution? That is the problem. Parliamentarian Maheswaren who voiced for the Tamil people had been assassinated. Parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan voicing for Tamils is under serious threats.

Whether the country stands united or divided is in the hands of the government.
