CM Karunanidhi lashes out at CPI(M)

(November 14, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today took a dig at the CPI(M) for publishing a cartoon in its mouthpiece criticising the decision to put off the debate on the power cuts in the State Assembly while giving reasons for the same being delayed.
Writing in the DMK party organ Murasoli, Karunanidhi said the debate on the power situation in the State in the Assembly was delayed because there was a need to pass a resolution on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

‘It was decided to have the opposition parties call for a special attention motion on power cuts on 12 November in the Assembly and Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasami would respond,’ Karunanidhi said. However, it was delayed as it was planned to have a debate on the Lankan issue.

‘I called up the Electricity Minister at 4.30 a.m and told him to inform the opposition parties about the urgency of a resolution on the Lankan issue,’ the Chief Minister said adding that he himself drafted the resolution.

Though it was decided to have a debate on the power issue after the resolution on the Lankan issue had been passed, it was delayed as speakers took more time, he said.

However, the AIADMK and CPI(M) after appearing to have agreed to the suggestion to discuss the issue on the next day, staged a walkout.

Referring to a cartoon in the Community party’s mouthpiece Theekathir which was critical of the debate on the power cut not being taken up in the Assembly, Karunanidhi said a section of the media had been publishing whatever they wanted to. ‘Then what is the difference between the others and the CPI(M),’ he lamented.
