"We will campaign to bring a change in the balance of power in plantations"

(December 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Democratic Peoples Front has decided to contest in Nuwara Eliya and Kandy districts in Central Province. Our contest will be in alliance with United National Party and other like minded parties and trade unions said DPF Leader Mano Ganesan MP in a statement issued from his office. Ganesan who is the president of Democratic Workers Congress, the plantation trade union wing of Democratic Peoples Front said further in his statement,

The forthcoming provincial elections are very crucial to the people of Indian origins in general and plantation community in particular. Our campaign will highlight the historical blunders and failures of the persons who have had ministered in all successive governments since 1978. The major blame for the under development of the plantation community should go to the credit of Minister Arumugan Thondaman’s Ceylon Workers Congress and Minister P. Chandrasekaran’s Up-Country Peoples Front. These plantation unions cannot seek the plantation vote this time by merely blaming the Sinhala politicians as usual. Today, the CWC and UPF are not part of the solution but of the problem in the plantations. This election will bring a change in the balance of power in the plantations. We will work to bring light to the plantations.
