Four Civilians kills by Sri Lanka Army – LTTE



(January 11, Pudukudiyiruppu, Sri Lanka Guardian) “Artillery fire directed at an IDP in Ward-9 in Puthukudiyiruppu at 10.10pm on Friday night killed a family of father, mother, daughter and a nephew sleeping in one tarpaulin tent. The two young people sleeping in the tent had just sat their GCE OL examination, “the Political Wing of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam said in a press statement.

According to the statement, “another young mother and her five year old daughter sleeping in the adjacent tent were seriously injured. The child sustained chest injuries and the mother sustained a fractured arm. Another 42 year old man lost both his legs in the shelling.”

“The IDP camp made up of about eight families of around 30 people displaced from Chilawathai in November 2008 and some families including the family of four who were killed were staying in another area. Following the heavy floods in November they were settled the current location with assistance from ICRC.”

On Saturday morning, following the shelling massacre, the entire camp of people were in the process of moving yet again within a month of setting up their shelter there.

2.Thuraisamy Chinnammah, female aged 57 (mother of the girl above)
3.Kaththan Thuraisamy, male aged 65 (father of the girl above)
4.Suppaih Thavakumar, male aged 17 (cousin of the girl above)

Details of those injured:

1.Kalatheepan Thivya, female child aged 5
2.Kalatheepan Manjula, female aged 25 (mother of the child)
3.Rasaih Suppaih, male aged 42 (lost both legs)
