Chennai Bureau

(January 16, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Dubbing the visit to Sri Lanka by External Affairs Secretary Shivshankar Menon as a drama by the Centre, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol Thirumavalavan, who is holding a fast unto death, today urged the Union government to directly intervene in the issue.

Speaking to reporters at the protest venue at Maraimalainagar near here, he said members from the women wing of the party would stage hunger protests at all district headquarters tomorrow.

He however clarified that the stir by the VCK was only against the Centre and not against the State government.

Thirumavalavan also said that PMK chief S Ramadoss had urged him to drop the fast protest, considering his health condition.

‘I told him that I will discuss with my party office bearers to take further decision over his request.’

On Menon’s visit, he said, ‘It is a drama being enacted by the Indian government. No solution is going to be found. India should intervene directly to put an end to the atrocities on Tamils by the Lankan forces.’

Meanwhile, Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani too has urged the Union government today to break its silence over the Lankan issue. He said that the tour by Indian cricket team to the neigbouring country should be stopped.
