TNA asks Govt. to bring in political solution

(January 03, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has called on the Sri Lankan government to bring in a political solution if it is sincere in winning the hearts and minds of Sri Lankan Tamils.

TNA parliamentarian Chandrakanthan Chandraneru said that Tamil people would not gain anything from capturing of territory from the LTTE by the government.

Expressing his reaction to President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s announcement that government troops captured the Kilinochchi, the TNA parliamentarian said capturing of a town by military means will not pave the way to establish peace in the island.

The security forces re-captured the eastern province from the LTTE in 2007, but it did not produce any outcome in that time too.

Mr. Chandraneru said that the war will continue despite Sri Lanka troops capturing key strongholds from the LTTE, unless there was any political solution to the ethnic crisis.

“Everybody is now saying that the east is currently an open prison where people can neither walk nor talk freely. Same thing will happen to Tamil people in the north,” the MP added.
