VCK chief hospitalised

Chennai Bureau

(January 19, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thirumavalavan has been hospitalised, and is said to be under medical observation.

This follows his three-day fast on the Sri Lankan issue, It may be recalled that Thirumavalavan staged a fast-unto-death agitation urging ceasefire in the island nation from 15 January at Maraimalai Nagar.

In the meantime, Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi asked the VCK chief to withdraw the agitation, urging him to wait for the Central government’s action in the matter (The Centre had promised to send the External Affairs Minister to Lanka).

The PMK chief, Dr S Ramadoss, met VCK chief at the protest venue and asked him to withdraw the fast. Later VCK chief’s mother Periammal followed suit. In the meanwhile, the party’s administrative council met at the venue itself and discussed on the continuance of the fast protest.

Then it was decided to call off the fast protest. The VCK chief who had been fasting for four days was naturally weak and, according to doctor’s advice, has been admitted to the Sri Ramachandra Medical College Hospital. Thirumavalavan is expected to be discharged by this evening or tomorrow.
