Terrorism is everywhere

By G.T.V.

(February 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) What dastardly acts of terror? If this is not terrorism at its height what is? The President ordered ‘full probes’ into all these incidents and has asked the police to provide information on the security afforded to the MTV/MBC TV station.Newspapers reported that the President had stated that Lasantha was a friend of his. The President said the same thing about Joseph Pararajasingham and T. Maheswaram as well.

No one is going to believe that these two acts of terrorism will be investigated and the culprits brought to book as we have seen such things before. Without a doubt one can say there is a hidden hand behind these acts. None of the recent attacks were ever investigated properly and the culprits brought to book.

It was the same with the assassinations of Joseph Pararajasingham, T. Maheswaram and Gen. Janaka Perera. The latest assault was on Rivira Editor Upali Tennakoon and his wife. Many teams have been designated to inquire into the attack but without success. These teams can only be described as the most inefficient in the world as there never has been a result. I don’t know whether they can be blamed — perhaps they were instructed to do so.

Terrorism in the north may well he unacceptable. But then what can one call the killings of Lasantha, Janaka and the others in the south? Getting rid of those who cannot see eye to eye with the government and those who expose the misdeeds of the ruling party has become the norm now. Isn’t this terrorism?

There is no doubt that the perpetrators came, committed the well planned acts and got back to where they came from, unhindered.

Why is it that none of these cases have been solved? Or if at all they were investigated, why was there never a breakthrough? It is because the hidden hand does not want the truth to surface.

When I went to the Fort Railway Station to pick up a passenger at 5 a.m one day I was checked five times. But very funnily a group of thugs travelling in a vehicle without a number plate at 2 a.m to destroy the MTV/MBC are not apprehended. But when it comes to an act committed against the government, the perpetrators are apprehended in double quick time.

When security was requested for the MTV/MBC TV Station and The Sunday Leader office the police simply ignored the requests. The security requested by Gen. Janaka Perera was also refused. But in all these instances the police spokesman denied that there ever was a request for security. How in heaven’s name can any one have any faith in the police today?

The situation is that the man who does a proper investigation into these crimes is transferred out overnight and the case is handed over to stooges bringing an end to the investigations.

Will these cases ever be probed? I do not think. May be the culprits will be taken into custody after a long lapse and then set free saying that there is no evidence.

The 17th Amendment to the constitution which has become law is not implemented because the powers that be want to ensure that the Constitutional Council and the Independent Commissions are not set up so that these acts of injustice can continue.

Since the Chief Justice has now stepped in to see that justice is meted out, the chances are the members of the Constitutional Commission will be nominated before the next hearing. I can only hope that the gods above will mete out justice to those who were involved in the murders of Lasantha, Janaka, Pararajasingam, Maheswaran and the devastation caused to the MTV/MBC TV station. Retribution will surely overtake them.
