(March 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A female student of the Eastern University has committed suicide by setting herself on fire.“The self immolation took place in her hostel itself located in Chandarmulla area this morning,” said Edison Gunatillaka, DIG in charge of Batticaloa Division.
She had set herself on fire after pouring kerosene on herself, the DIG said.
The student was admitted to Batticaloa hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to her injuries.
According to Police, the 21-year-old resident of Puthukudi Irippu, had been receiving psychiatric treatment.-Sri Lanka Guardian
