Controversial gazette notification on public servants suspended

(April 02, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A gazette notification issued by the Public Service Commission under which government servants would be terminated from services in the event of failing to pass an efficiency test within a period of three years has been suspended by the government, officials said.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet on Wednesday night.

The suspension came after Trade unions accused the government for trying to curtail the government service keeping with conditions imposed by the IMF.
