(April 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) On the invitation of Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mr. Jakob Kellenberger visited Sri Lanka on 7th April 2009. He was accompanied by Mr. Jacques De Maio, Head of Operations for South Asia.
The ICRC President called on Minister Bogollagama in Colombo yesterday (07th April 2009) and discussed several aspects of the ongoing ICRC activities in Sri Lanka. The Minister conveyed the appreciation of the Government to the ICRC for its cooperation and assistance to the Government of Sri Lanka in dealing with the humanitarian situation in the North.
Secretary, Ministry of Healthcare & Nutrition, Secretary, Ministry of Social Services & Social Welfare, Secretary, Ministry of Resettlement & Disaster Relief Services, the Commissioner-General for Essential Services, as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law & Order were associated with the Foreign Minister at the meeting.
