President vows to provide political solution to the conflict

(May 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) President Mahinda Rajapaksa also vowed to provide a political solution to the conflict. “We don’t see the military victory as a final solution” Rajapaksa addressing the nation from Parliament said.

He said that he hopes to provide a ‘home grown’ solution to the conflict and does not hope to impose any solution provided by any foreign country and does not hope to be experimenting solutions.

President said that he hopes the international community too would co-operate in implementing the solution.

"From now onwards the entire nation comes under the rule of the Parliament. Earlier the government administration did not function in a part of the country", he said.

He said the end of the war against the ‘terrorist’ was not a defeat for the Tamil community and henceforth he did not want to identify them as a minority community in the country.

President said when he assumed duties in 2005 the LTTE was controlling nearly a quarter of the country and nearly two thirds of the sea area and paid tribute to the security forces and police for the success.
